Daily Prompt: Dear Leader

The prompt said:

If your government (local or national) accomplishes one thing in 2013, what would you like that to be?

If there is one thing that I really want the government to accomplish it is to reduce the country’s rate of unemployment and provide quality jobs to its people.

According to this article, the Philippines had a boom in economic growth. But despite that fact, we had the highest unemployment rate in the region. If we want to be truly progressive, we have to make sure that everybody contributes to it.

We don’t want the poor to remain poor. We also don’t want the best minds of the country practice their craft someplace else because they don’t have the venue for that here. We don’t want our most competent workers go to a foreign place just so they can apply what they learned just because we can’t provide that here.

We cannot be so dependent on OFW remittances as part of our GDP. Despite the fact that this proves that the Filipinos are one of the best workers in the world, it does not help with how we develop our country as a whole. There are a lot of things we can improve in this country and we can employ our people to improve them.
