I have got to tell you that I am not friendly. I have a hard time putting my guard down and I make sure that I filter all of the people that come into my life.
Having said that, I never had many friends – only a few close ones. They say that high school was the best part of your life. I never had that thought. I was not a part of a group of friends who constantly hung out.
Around 6 years after we graduated high school, a classmate of mine invited me to a volleyball game that involved different personalities from our class. I was hesitant at first but since it was a volleyball game, I decided to join.
That decision turned my life around. From being someone who is isolated, I became connected. I suddenly couldn’t imagine going through life without these amazing people. I wonder how I would turn out had I been with them all along.
But, as we all know it, life is all about timing. That deciding moment was the time when I was about to graduate from college. I would not want to go into the world without a single friend who will be with me.
Now, they are an essential part of my life and a constant source of sanity. They make my life easier and funnier. It’s like being back in high school.
Living in an archipelago, the Philippines is home to a lot of sand and beaches. It is also natural that most people prefer to spend their vacation on the beach.
I, too, am a very big on the beach thing. And my most loved beach of this country is Boracay. It is a bit cliche but the sand is so fine and the waters are clear. The atmosphere, too, is incomparable with other beaches in this country.
Coming in second will be Calaguas. It is second on the list because of issues with accessibility. The view, shoreline, clear waters, and isolation of it are the most charming features of this island.
Other beaches that complete my list are:
- White Beach in Boracay Island, Aklan
- Mahabang Buhangin in the Calaguas Islands, Camarines Norte
- Sabang Beach in Baler, Aurora
- Saud Beach in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
- Anawangin Beach in Anawangin, Zambales
Other beaches on my to-go list are:
- El Nido, Palawan
- Bantayan Island, Cebu
The sound of waves crashing into the beach.
The PA system announcing that my flight is now boarding.
My pet cat purring the moment he sees me.
Shoes squeaking on the court.
My message notification sound.
Lea Salonga in the original Miss Saigon production.
My name being called by my Starbucks barista crush.
These are music to my ears.
But, you know what, music is not exclusive to genres that you like.
My boss calling me by my full first name.
The buzzer that says it’s the end of my bump car ride.
Too much friction between chalk and the board.
Nick Jonas singing on the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables.
Too much honking.
These, too, are music. But, the kind that I don’t like.
My world is different now. Gone were the days when I will just sit on my desk and think about what to do for the day.
There were moments when I feel like I don’t have any idea how my performance for the year will be measured. Now, I know what is expected of me and there are a lot.
In the last year and a half, a lot of responsibilities has been passed on to me. Some may see that as a burden; however, I see them as challenges to my personality and skill. It makes my world a little more colorful than what it was.
Although I feel little bit stressed at times, I couldn’t afford to linger on those feelings because a lot of people depend on me. And, I’ve always said that I wanted to make a difference in the world.
Now, I’m starting to make some.
I know that Taylor Swift is big right now. But, I really appreciated her when she was in her roots, country music.
And, from her numerous albums, my most favorite is Fearless. And, the song title of the same name is one of those that struck my heart.
Why? Because I am a hopeless romantic. I love the rain. And, more importantly, I’d like to have someone who will make me want to do things I have feared of doing.
Lastly, there’s something inspiring about the lyrics – I don’t know how it gets better than this.
There are actually items that I need help with.
- How do I keep my composure at work?
- To those who’s been to Taiwan, where do you suggest we go?
Just in case someone has the answers, please raise your hand.
There are a lot of responsibilities lately at work. Mainly because I have become the right-hand man. I do not think of this as additional workload.
These are windows of opportunities.
If I want to progress with this career, I need to handle these projects and tasks. Despite the fact that I feel like everything will be on my shoulders, I think that it will be a good gauge of how organized I can be.
Last Saturday, we had to do an exercise at work and I fully admit that it didn’t have a lot of preparation. Try, one week. This is a monthly exercise so I have a lot more room to work with.
Life closed one door for me. But, I see that a lot more windows are open. Some are too high to reach. But, I do have enough time to check out everything. I just have to manage my time well.
