Laing and Tinapa by Maria’s

Maria’s is a relatively new place to eat around Ortigas Center. It sits on the ground floor of Eton Emerald Lofts so it’s just a stone’s throw away from the office.

The lunch crowd was there and it easily gets packed. Good thing that we were a little early.

I ordered the laing and tinapa rice meal. I was worried, though, for my sodium intake because of these two.

Laing is dried taro leaves cooked in coconut milk, usually with chili to make it spicy. And tinapa is smoked fish. These will make your sodium levels fly to the heavens.

Service was a bit slow. It took 20 minutes to prepare this for me. However, food was acceptable. The marriage of laing and tinapa was great. Tinapa provided the saltiness while the laing was creamy because of coconut milk.

I was afraid that I didn’t get to taste the spice that usually comes with laing. It was a bit lacking in that area. Over-all, food was good but not “OMG, we should always eat here” good. Price is commensurate to the food that they cooked for you. This meal was about PHP 160.

Serving size, too, was also a plus factor for them! All in all, lunch was good!
